In the journey of business/entrepreneurship, it is important to take a cue from individuals and organisations whose business models have become reference points for success.

It is necessary to note that as successful as these business people have become, their journeys were not without their fair share of bumps, hitches, and potholes.

Although there are numerous such examples locally and internationally, we shall, in the context of this discourse, look at two of the topmost successful entrepreneurs in Nigeria, ALIKO DANGOTE and MIKE ADENUGA.

According to Dangote himself, at age 21 he borrowed a small sum of $3,000 from his uncle to start a business venture which evolved into Dangote Group, now a multinational conglomerate.

Dangote Group is one of Africa’s largest manufacturers of sugar, cement, flour, and pastry. He is the richest man in Nigeria and has maintained that position for the 8th consecutive year.

His oil and gas refinery is nearly completed, and it is expected to be the largest oil and gas refinery in Africa. Valued at$10.6 billion, Dangote was adjudged the 74th richest man in the world and is currently the richest black man on the planet.

Dangote is famous not only in Nigeria but also all over the globe.

Mike Adenuga, a Nigeria businessman, is the 2nd richest person in the country. He owns Globacom Nigeria Limited, the second-largest telecommunications operator in Nigeria.

It is important to note that Adenuga had to take a bold step to start this business when the odds all seemed to be working against such business in the country, as this can be a lesson in business determination and perseverance.

His wealth, as of 2019, is valued at $9.1billion. Adenuga is also well known outside Nigeria, as evident in his conferment with the Companion of the Star of Ghana award, the most prestigious award in Ghana, in recognition of his huge economic impacts in the African country.

Forbes named him the 3rd richest black man in 2019.

The two successful entrepreneurs mentioned above, alongside such others, should serve as sources of inspiration for upcoming businessmen and women.

All their achievements were borne out of hard work, patience, and determination. They and others like them have set the pace and model in the business world and it is up to you to also become a GO-GETTER and an ACHIEVER. God’s GRACE to follow suit is sufficient for all of us.

A saying goes thus:

Always strive to KNOW THE STORY FIRST and ask yourself: Do those successful men and women have two heads? If your answer is no, and that they have only one head each like you, then know that whatever they have done, YOU TOO CAN.
